About

I recently found myself spending time at home in the mornings and coming across some episodes of Murder, She Wrote.
I suddenly remembered watching it with my mum on the sofa, when I was a little kid, and my heart immediately got warmer.  Despite dealing with an incredible number of horrible people and risking her life pretty much in every episode, Jessica Fletcher never loses her temper and her beautifully poised attitude.
Jessica has this classy, simple and yet always appropriate style, and in this, I confess,  she reminds me of my mum. Also, they both wore glasses at times, used a noisy typewriter, loved mystery solving, had a quick mind and a very keen eye for detail.

I just love the way in which these kind of women are always classy no matter what, matching – of course! – their elegant manners with an impeccable wardrobe.
So, I asked myself: what if my New Year Resolution was to better myself following their lead?
Well, since I can’t magically transform in a classy lady in one day, I thought about starting from the outside whilst working on the inside.
I looked online for a website suggesting similar outfits to those that Jessica wore in her TV series as I wanted to copy some of them, and yet… I could not find any!

This is why I started this blog: for all those women out there who would like to be able to survive an attempted murder twice a week and yet still look fabulous (without breaking the bank), here are some of my suggestions, inspired by JF’s closet. Please feel free to add/correct/suggest and thank you for stopping by! :)

    Can we talk, please? :)

  20. I have always been a HUGE Angela Lansbury fan and absolutely LOVE Murder, She Wrote so much so that I have a Pinterest board dedicated to her. I will be pinning every entry into it!

  21. Thank you for this blog! I’m an enormous fan of Murder, She Wrote and I love Jessica. I adore her quiet, classy dress sense too. She dresses appropriately for a mature woman, but never looks dowdy, just beautifully poised and put together, in any situation.

  22. A friend shared this with me and I can’t tell you how awesome it is! Huge MSW/JF fan and one of the best taglines: “for all those women out there who would like to be able to survive an attempted murder twice a week and yet still look fabulous”. Thanks for putting this together!

  23. Just discovered your blog ; I am positively addicted to old Jessica so I wish you all the best !

  25. This blog is fantastic. JB is my hero too and I will definitely be following along.

  26. Lau, thanks for coming by my blog. I love what you are doing here! It’s a very fun, clever idea. I watched Murder, She Wrote when I was a kid, too, and I’ve always enjoyed Angela Langsbury’s acting. She brought fashion class to every one of her roles, even as the evil mom in The Manchurian Candidate. Best, Marie

    • Thank you so much! I love your blog too! And of course I completely agree, Angela Lansbury is amazing!

Thank you for stopping by my blog. Glad I took at yours! Jessica Fletcher! What a priceless idea! My mom watches “Murder She Wrote” every evening, so I watch with her every now and then. I know what you mean about her being so classy, no matter what! And not to miss her sling bags!

    • Thank you very much for checking out my blog and for your lovely comment! I love her bags too! :)

  30. I’ve always thought that JF’s wardrobe was an amazing (so amazing – she’s dressed perfectly for every occasion from hobnobbing to jogging, as you’ve so well demonstrated) and under-recognized asset of the show, and I’m so glad to see you highlighting it here! This is a totally brilliant idea and I really want to see more of your own sleuthing, please keep it up. Also, her fashion sense only evolves over time so it would be great to see you try your hand at some of the later episodes. This made my day, thanks so much for it!

    • Thank you so much for such lovely comment!! Jessica’s style is fantastic and I am learning a lot from her fashion choices! A few technical problems and some life events have been getting in between me and blogging, but I will resume soon! Thank you so much for reading!! x

  31. Ahhh!! I am soooo thrilled to have found your blog today!! I love it! I thought I was the only one trying to find some of the things she wears, I wanted the Coach bag so bad! and I even tried to match up a yellow raincoat! ha cant believe my luck finding you! Thank you so much for this!!!

  32. I love Murder She Wrote and have box sets! I just love Jessica and her style! Started following your blog, and glad I came across it!

  33. Thank you for stopping by and the like! You’ve got a great blog, and although I’m totally fashion unconscious I love to read it (I like ‘murder she wrote’)

  34. Thank you so much for recently stopping by my blog! What a very creative blog you have. Best wishes to you in your writing and getting established in your new country.

  35. Thank you!!!!!! I love your blog!! :)

  36. Hello! Currently watching the episode “A Quaking in Aspen” and I think in a scene Jessica is wearing an awesome black sequinned trouser suit! (The bit where they arrest Laney Sherman Boswell, about 15 minutes into the episode or so.) I can’t find it anywhere to back it up, have a look if you find it. But it looks great! :) I love your blog, I’m a big fan of Jessica’s sense of style.

  37. Veronica Cline Barton

Oh how glad I am to find this blog! I just bought a Hartmann business bag that Jessica was toting about last night in a rerun episode on Hallmark channel. I remember loving that bag and so up to Ebay I went and I found one!! I’ll post the pic when I get it. The episode was set in Amsterdam–Jessica gets accused of murder–the bad guy transfers her fingerprints with scotch tape to the knife murder weapon!! :)

  38. I never really watched MSW, but Jessica is JUST like my mom. I love how ladies of a certain class and age always look put together and “nice” all the time. I need to work on this myself, so your blog speaks to me. This is a really creative and fun blog!

  39. Hi,
My name is Emma Teitel. I’m a writer with Maclean’s Magazine doing a piece on Jessica Fletcher. Would love to get in touch for the story. Deadline is Thursday. Pls get in touch as soon as possible.

    • Hello Emma, just saw your message. Thank you for stopping by. Would you like to drop me a line on teapot24 at gmail dot com, maybe? :)

  40. This blog is marvelous! The nostalgia and wit bring a smile to my face, and I’m truly inspired to throw more scarves and pearls to dress up my weekly wardrobe routine. Keep up the marvelous work. :)

  41. Allison BD

This is absolutely fabulous! I am so excited to find this gem of a blog.

  42. So original! Wouldn’t have ever have thought of blogging about this in a million years.

  43. I think I’m going to be rather occupied with your MARVELLOUS blog tonight.

Also, you win the internet, congratulations!

Mrs Fletcher’s accessories are always flawless.

  44. This blog is just the thing i was looking for! I like Jessica’s style and i’m hoping to make mine similar. Your ideas and photos help me a lot! I have one wish, could you make post about key corners of Jessica’s style. Like must have- jacket, shirt, cardigan, shoes and scarf. :) Thank you!

  45. Hello. I was already rewatching Murder, She Wrote when I discovered your blog a few weeks ago (thru the great murdershewroteshewrote.tumblr.com , btw). But thanks to you, I’ve become nearly as fixated on Jessica’s outfits as on Angela Lansbury’s incredible portrayal. I’m well into the 4th season (series, I mean :p), now and, I swear, I have not seen one “miss” among her outfits. She just looks so great in everything! I imagine there must be something that wouldn’t look terrific on her, but nothing that ever appears on camera. It’s amazing, isn’t it?

Anyway, I wanted to thank you for this blog. I cannot fathom the amount of work that has gone into, but it’s just fabulous. Really.

I see that you haven’t been able to post in a while, but that does not take away from what’s here, not at all.

    Best to you.

  46. I just found your blog and I absolutely love it! I’m a huge Murder, She wrote and look forward to reading all your posts! Jessica had such a classy style and I’m so glad someone thought of this!

  47. Does anyone know what computer bag Jessica uses in Season 10, and 11? It’s the leather brown looking bag with the solid leather at all 4 ends and has little stands so that it stands up without touching the floor. It’s in so many episodes from season 10, and 11. All seasons are up on Netflix right now. A great picture of the bag I’m talking about is on the season 11, ep. 2 Amsterdam Kill where Jessica is signing into the hotel at the front desk it’s on her shoulder, and not the one she’s got in her hand.
